Porus was a Khukhrain?

* There are two questions that have not been either not investigated deeply by the Indian historians or they have mistaken to declare that King Porus of Jhelum (West Punjab (Pakistan)) as Khukhrayan of Sabharwal clan.

 * There are villages and towns built in District Jhelum that have been named as Karwal (Karsal), Chakwal, Sahuwal, Varwal, Uddarwal, Roopwal and many other sounding similar. Does these names were fixed purposely?

These names suggests and confirms that there must have been a great king or some supreme or grand personality in Jhelum area in those days, who had been so beloved and popular among the inhabitants of that area to whom they might have themselves suggested and accepted these “VAR “ or “WAL”, sounding names after the name of clan of that widely honored noble personality.

From the study of ancient history we find that out of the 16 Maha Janpadas (Kingdoms) of India, kingdom of Magadha had been the most developed and advanced.

King Padam Anand and King Porus were very good friends. After the death of King Padam Anand Magadha was divided among eight brothers and this created strife in the family and consequently weakened the kingdom.

Anticipating further deterioration ‘Shubharvar’ one of the eight brother, in secrecy from his eldest brother Dhan Anand, met Jhelum King Puru (commonly known after Alexander’s invasion as PORUS). And then Shubharvar migrated along with his Forces and ministers to Jhelum (Now in Pakistan) in the year 328 BC.

King PURU (Porus) as per his secret pre meeting , assurance and promise received him cordially, also on account of his past friendship with his late father King Padam Anand.

Porus gave him royal honor. He was given the title of RAJA and designated as the Chief Commander of his vast Army. The forces of shubharvar were also accommodated and placed in his army.

For Raja Shubharwar building like palace was erected in the vicinity of Jhelum City viz few miles away and was allotted several miles of land there to accommodate his Magadha companion ministers and officer.

That’s why several places sounds like WAL or VAR as Puruvar later changed to VarVar or Varwal which sounds like Shubharwar or Shubharwal

The name of ancient city Pushkalwati changed to ‘Purushpur’ during his reign and then to ‘Varvar’ or ‘Varval’ during the reign of Shubharwar.

It is note worthy , that the war of Jhelum fought between Greek King Alexander (Sikander, Indian name) and King Puru ( Porus, Greek name ) was fought under the command of Shubharwar ( Shubharwal ). After the death of both Puru and Alexander, Shubharwar was the coroneted King of Jhelum. It was this reason that later, habitated places were named after his name by pre/post fixing with the “var” or “wal”.

Regarding “Porus”, it is the mispronounced word by Greeks for the word “PURU”. Actually, the name of PURU was “PURUSH” which means ATMA or SOUL.

As we known that Sabharwal clan was named after the King Shubharwar, who was earlier one of the king of Anand (Nanda) Dynasty and then became Chief Commandant of Jhelum area and finally became King of Purushpur after the death of both Porus and Alexander.

Now, how could we consider Porus (Puru or Purush), to be Sabharwal, when before the migration in 322 BC of Anand Dynasty to West Punjab (Pakistan). Firstly, Anand Dynasty became famous as Kushrayans then name changed to Kukhrayan, and after several years their descendants used the name of eight brothers to recognize or distinguish them on the basis of their forefathers. They all belong to Solar Dynasty, that is, Surayavansh.

Complete name of Porus (Purush or Puru) was Purushottam. Being the descendant of ancient Lunar Dynasty (Chandra Vansh) of the Puru Dynasty. He was similarly honored as his ancestor PURU (on whose name the dynasty was named as Puru Dynasty) and thus, famous among his citizens and neighboring kingdoms with the name PURU against his actual name PURUSH.

It is similar as name of King Raamchandra was pronounced as King Raam of Suryavansh mentioned as RAGHAV, RAGHUNATH and RAGHUNANDAN being the descendant of Emperor Raghu. Similarly, King Krishan of Lunar Dynasty (Chandra Vansh) was called YADAV, YADUNATH, and YADUNANDAN. On the name of his ancestor YADU. Similarly, Arjun was known as Parth, Pandav on name of his ancestors.

Therefore, PORUS (Purushottam) was not a Khukhrain King of Sabharwal clan but was a Chandra Vanshi King.

History of Peshawar (Pakistan):

Founded by Pushkar son of King Bharat (younger brother of King Raamchandra) and named as PUSHKALWATI then named to PURUSHPUR after the name of Purushottam.

Again the name changed to VARVAL/VARVAR during Shubharwar’s reign.

After the death of Shubharwar the name of the city was kept on the name of both Purushottam and Shubharwar, that is, PURUSHWAR, which was later spelled as PESHAWAR.
